POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The . annual meeting of tho Pohangina County Council was hold this week, when Councillor It. W. Brown was re-elected chairman. Tho overdraft was reported at •ElOB.l IDs. sd. At tho monthly meeting the resignation of T. Harland, as second roadman, was received, and tho appointment of it successor was held over. The remuneration of councillors for travelling expenses was fixed at tho same as for tho previous year. The engineer's report was read and adopted, iijid his action in accepting a tender for 30 tons of cement was endorsed. Attention was called to tho number of stock grazing on. tho county roads at night, and tho clerk was instructed 1;o put on a ranger at night, tho roads being closed to fctock betwoep li p.m. and G a.m. Tho chairman and Councillors Smart and Port were appointed to represent tho council at a conference to apportion tho cost of constructing a bridge across tho Orpua River at Menzios's ford. The question of tho valuation vras discussed, the opinion being general that a frosh valuation was desirable,' a,nd it was decided to go further into tho matter at next meeting. J he clerk was instructed to take proceedings for tho recovery of rates unpaid after Deocmbcr 11.
