MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Breclal Correspondent.) Masterton, November 21. Very satisfactory entries have been received for the Rose and Sweet Pea Show;, in connection with the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society, which i» to bo held to-morrow. Tho show of roses, however, will not bo quite up to the standard, tho rough weather having played havoc with them. There, will nevertheless be a fine collection of Mvcet peas. One or two outvies liaro been received from as far distant as Wellington. Tho Masterton Orchestral Society will eivo a concert to-morrow ovening. Miss Prichard, of Melbourne, who was fo successful ot tho Wellington Competitions, will be among tho contributors. Shearing operations aro now in full swing on tho larger, stations round Masterton. Some of the smaller sheds havo already "out out." The monthly meeting of tho Lansdowne School Committee was hold last ovening. Tho headmaster reported Che averago attendance for the past six weeks to bo IS7, and tho number on the roll 182. The report of tho inspector was read, and was of an encouraging nature. ~■ A Wellington firm is now offering fivepence per pound for bacon pigs. This is &iid to bo the highest; price offered for pigs in the history of the Dominion. A deputation from tho Wairarapa District Nursos' Committee waited upon the Finance Committee of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board tin's afternoon, and discussed details of the scheme for providing nurses for tho outlying portions of the district. The 'quarterly meeting of the Slxinehenge Lodge of Druids was hold lost evening, Bro. P. Corl>ett, A.D.\ presiding. One candidate was initialed, and two proposed for membership. The Royal Arch Chanter decided to meet on Tuesday, November 2S. Officers for the oncuing term worn nominated, and it was decided to forward a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Bro. Prentice. At a meeting of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club last night, two new members were elected. 'The resignation of Mr. Nicholson, as secretary, was accepted with regret, and Mr. W. Dickson was appointed to the position. White and purple were elms-en as the colours of the club. Arrangements wore made to run several events in connection Willi a parish fete on Thursday. A statement filed in the tankrupt e-tafe of Edward George Harris, farmer, shows total liabilities amounting to .t"IS Ms. fid. There is_an estimated surplus of Co2o on securities hold by secured creditors and the totaj delicieiicv on the estate is put down at ,£2B 13s. Gd.
