Ho is en route to (be West Const. .An official welcome, to his Excellency was given by the Mayor. There was a hrgo attendance of the, public, despite a pouring rain, which upset all fixture?. It had been intended that his Excellency should make a tour of the Motueka orchards to-day, but tho trip wp.s impossible. If the weather mends, ho' may visit tho Stoke orchards,, in tho neighbourhood of tho city. After the reception the Governor visited the colleges. To-morrow he will attend the agricultural show, and bo entertained at a banquet in t.ho evening. Ho proceeds to tho West Coast on Thursday if 'tho ■ weather permits. ' ATTEMPTED HIS LIFE. ; Nelson, November 21. A young married man named , Angus M'Lc.od attempted to commit suicido today by shooting himself in the head with a revolver.. He wns removed to the hospital in a serious'condition. .
THE NELSON SHOW!::V. Nelson, November 21. The nineteenth annual show, of the Nelson A. and P. Association commenced to-day: Thero was a slight fall-ing-off in tho entries, but not in tho principal, classes, and, on tho whole, the finality was well maintained. The championships wcro won as follow:—Shorthorn bull— V. W. I'Virey. Ayrshires— Albert. Gibbs. Aldorneys—Jns. Hunt. Pigs, Berkshire and Tamworth, boars— W. R. May; Yorkshire-?.- and H. Haycock.. Sheep, Morino ' ram—D. Bishcll, Blenheim. Romney Marsh—Thos. Hunt, Wakefield. The Governor will attend the show to-morrow. . FOR WIDOWS AND ORPHANS. Auckland, November 21. The sum of over one hundred guineas was raised on board tho Zealandia in aid of the widows and orphans of tho victims of.(ho Roscdale and Mncleay wrecks, which recently occurred on tho Now South Wales coast. , The money was raised by the sale of a paper published on board the vessel during her voyage from Vancouver. BRIEF MENTION. Auckland, November 21. At the Tramways Conference to-day, it was stated that tho demands of tho men would entail an increased expenditure of ■£10,000 a year. The conference has been adjourned. Auckland, November 21. At the Supreme Court to-day, Peter Ponnell, for assaulting a fellow seaman, was sentenced to six months' hard labour. '
