PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(Br Telegrapb.-SDccial Correspondent.) Palmerston, Xorember 20. A sis-roomed house at Kairanga, owned and occupied by Mr. H. Moffatt, was destroyed by fire at 5.30 this morning; When the inmates were awakened, the tire had such a hold that they onlv had time to escape in their night attire, and nothing whatever was saved. A high wind was blowing at (he time, and the flames • were spread -to (lie stable and sherls. which were also completely destroyed. The house was insured in the. Sun office for £3!10, and the contents in. the Farmers' Union office for ,£250. The stables and contents were insured for .£2O The Tiritea Water-works were visited this morning by the Mayor and borough muncillors, with a view lo inspecting the progress made with the raising of the dam from lift, to 50ft. The tunnels recently made to effect a junction with the bank were al-o inspected. The live hundred territorials who were sivorn in last week are to parade in their different commands during the present week.
