Tho ftev E <Y Blamircs recited "The Wolf," which 'the audience warmly applauded. _Mr. Trcgear for his subject "The Temperance Question." In tho earlier days, cspecia ly during the time of the Maori War, he had seen a great deal of intemperance amongst the voung men of r\ew Zealand, and knew of men who had worked for months at a spell like horses, and practically lived like pi" S (because the conditions were so bad) during the gold-digging days, and after drawing their cheques for the work thov had done would go to (he nearest township and dispose of that cheque inside of a week at some hotel. Tho speaker said he. .vas satisfied that things were not «o bad to-day in Now Zealand, although there was a lot to be doue to improve matters, and he appealed to tho audience to give the liquor traffic its death-blow at the coming elections. He was getting an old man now, and during the few remaining days of his life .would work for true social reform and to trv a.'.ul rnako this world brighter and happier, and' to "am this,end he must have the willing support of his Labour friends. If he was going to fight with the Labour party he intended (o tight fairly, and in being'lair he .must make it plain that, although hn was a hater of stvons drink yet lie had met many fine and generous nien who occupied tho positions as hotelkeeners. In concluding his address, Mr. Trcgeo.r remarked that the No-License. • party had achieved a great amount of good, but they .must go ahead more strongly and more determined than ever to gain a victory and so establish a Heaven on earth. Mr. Laun proposed a hearty, vote of thanks to the speaker, which 1 was heartilv carried.
