Mr. W. Moore, of Carterton, is at present. visitiug Rotorua for the. benefit of his health. • ' A company is being formed to acquire the Waiiarapa Tannery Works at Clareville, which havo been closed down for some time past. The prospectus has been issued, and tho new company will have a capital of in 411 shares. It will trade as tho Clarevilh Tannery Company, Ltd. Tho spring show of tho Greytown and Lower Valley Horticultural Society takes placo on November 30. Among tho special prizes is the Buchanan Rose Bowl, given by Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., for annual competition in roses, and to be held by tho winner for ono year. Mr. A. Booth, of Gladstone, is tho present holder. The president (Dr. Bey) and vicepresidents havo given a silver cup, to bo known as tho "Greytown Sweet Pea Cup," for annual competition in sweet peas, to be held by tho winner for one year, Mr. G. M'Farlane, of Greytown, being the present holder. Mrs. Cotter has given u special prizo of one guinea for the best decorated tablo centre, and also for tho best collection of crochet work by ladies of eighty years or over, and Vs. 6d. for seccnd prize. On Sunday night at about 8.30 someone entered the private residenco of Mr. J. Harp, in Garrison Street, by prising, open (i window. Mr. Harp had just retired to rest, and was aroused by the noise of tho. intruder, who must have been under the impression that the occupants were away at church. Mr. Harp caught hold of tho burglar, but ho managed to get free, .and thus made good his escape. Tho polico aro investigating the matter. Mr. E. Eagle, junr.. of Belvedere, left (or the New Plymouth show on Mondav morning, to judge Jersey cattle there.
