MR. MTBWAN AT TOPER HOTT. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, Independent candidate for -the Hutt seat, addressed a meeting at Upper. Hutt on Saturday night. The candidate, who dealt at length with tho land question, said that, if, ever there was need for unencumbered Liberals it was at this election. If elected, lie would oppose gambling, and the total isa tor. He wns strongly in favour of a baro majority on tho Nq-License question. The present Government had outlined the usefulness, and ho urped, olcctors to "out with them" and make room for a progressive policy. Mr.' M'Ewan -was accorded a voto of thanks. '. '
