SHOW AT WANGANUJ. ONE FINE FEATURE, MARKED INCREASE IN ENTRIES. FIFTY PER CENT. BETTER, THE RESULT OF STEADY EFFORT. Bj Tolcsraph-Speelal Roporter.l VVanoanui, November 15. To-day the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association reaped the harvest of many months hard work. This work embo'died no less au enterprise than laying the foundation for a commercial show, 1 and,' hard as the . offort lias been, it is pleasing to record that the result has proved gratifying enough. The feoliug is that it more than compensates tor the somewhat arduous effort put forward. Heavy rain foil last evening and early this morning, and showers swept tht> judging area during the day. Tho enow, however, has drawn together a .splendid gathering of stock, and also of dogs "of aristocratic lineage." on 50 per cent, increase on last year's figures is indicated by tho total entries at tho prosent shdw, and almost every section discloses an increaso. ■ In tho sheep classes.
howbvor, the entries hang at last year's figuro, but it should bo mentioned that, in addition to classes shown at other North Island shows this spring, there is \a fairly good entry of Corriedaks. They are shown by Messrs. Pernio Bros, .and Mr. John Gibson. These breeders divided tho champion honours. Byelancls are-also fairly represented by the exhibits of Mr. Fred. Mooro and Mr. C. Russell. The ram champion belongs to Mr. Eussoll's flock, but no championship was awarded in ewes. A creator number of breeders wore to tlw tore with.entries in Southdowns than was tho case in tho other sheep classes, but competition suffered through tho fact that Messrs. Wilson Bros.'s sheep did not conio to hand. Messrs. Ellis Bros, and Mr. S.'E, Lancaster each took a championship. Border Leicestors havo also drawn the flocks of a number of breeders, Mr. J. D. Ormond annexing both championship tickets. Competition in Lincolns is confined to Messrs. J. D. Ormond and W. H. Wybourne, who each took one championship. With three exceptions, Mr. S. E. Lancaster fills all the classes in English Leicesters. He added two more to his long list of championships. Romncvs attracted a fair amount of competition, but tho Shropshire Downs shown aro all in the name of Mr. G. L. Marshall. The Eomncy championships fell to -Messrs. G. M. Currie and E. Tanner, while Mr. Marshall took both in his class. _Tho strongest sectiou in tho cattlo division is tho, Jersey display, but Ayrslrires nro also jprominent, and "there is'a gcod showing of Holsteins and Shorthorns. Iho two last-mentioned classes, however, aro not as strong as they have been at somo recent shows. • Holsteins and Shorthorns excepted, in which the champions belonged to Mr. W. I. Lovelock and Diilziell Bros, respectively," honours " wero well divided. A small section of horses was judged to-day, but moro important classes will como forward to-morrow. The light horses are a feature of the show. Thoro is a capital display of fat sheep, but the pig classes are very thin.
