9 SITUATION COMPLICATED. SYDNEY WHARF LABOURERS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copjricht Sydney, November 13. While flie wharf labourers at most of the wharves continued work on Saturday after the tea adjournment, they left the Australian United Steam Navigation Company's steainer Mallina at 5 o'clock, and did not return. (Rec. November 13, 9.33 pan.) Sydney, November 13. The strike situation is becoming complicated, some men arc prepared to work under tho agreement and tho conditions; others only during certain hours. A largo number assembled at the Howard Smith's Wharf this morning where they proposed to start unloading tho steamer Mallina at six o'clock, but when tho call was made only eight responded; two hours later tho required number started. Interviewed, the lato starters stated that they held a mooting and decided not to work cargo before eight in the morning or after fivo at night unless paid overLimo rates. Another striko occurred to-day when two hundred slaters ceased work and demanded an increaso of a shilling a day. CONGESTION ON WHARVES. (Rec. November 11, 0.15 a.m.) Sydney, November 13. Tho departure of the Mahono has been postponed to noon of Thursday. The wharf labourers knocked off at 5 to-night, when work erased. Tho shipowners aro firm in their refusal not to allow a restart before G. 30. The men aro equally determined not to work at night unless allowed to restart at six. The Union Company now como into lino with tho other inter-State companies. Tho stoppage of night woTk is adding to tho already seriously congested condition of tho wharves. Tho companies aro compelled to refuse much cargo. The striko of wool-scourers and basilworkers is interfering with tho stock sales. Buyers are curtailing purchases owing to the difficulty of handling skins. A ballot of strikers is proceeding. Tlie union officials are hopeful that the result will be an early resumption.
