Lord Charles Beresford, M.P., in a speech at Portsmouth, assured Mr. Churchill, First Lord of tho Admiralty, that he would loyally support him if ho aimed to strengthen the fleet in snob a way that nobody dare attack it. Ho rejoiced at Mr. Churchill's idea of adopting a war staff at the Admiralty, as being the best moans of securing instant readiness for war. On November G, a cable message stated that much comment had been caused bv Lord Charles Bere.sford's withdrawal of his naval book, entitled "Betrayal," after review copies had been issued."
