Very heavy hail fell in the strip of country from Waimate to Kangitata, passing Timaru eight to twelve miles inland. Some of the stones were large, and the hail lay several inches thick, whitening tuo country like snow. Much damage was done to vegetation along the whole leugth of the strip.
