PUT OFF THE SHOW GROUNDS.
(> SOME ANTI-iIILITARY FOLK. The secretary to tho Anti-Militarist Conference, noiv sitting in Wellington, received last evening tho following telegrams from a member of tho National I'eace Society, who had been engaged in circulating anti-military literature at tho agricultural show grounds in Christchurch :— Secretary Pembertou ■ brought word that General Godlcy objected to circulation of our literature. Committee order you to closo up. After further warning, I was forcibly and ignominiously ejected. The polico took charge of our exhiibt. Ask conference protest.—(Signed) Atkinson. In accordance with tho abovo message, tho conference pascd the following resolution:—"That this conference emphatically protests against the action of MajorGeneral Godley in objecting to tho circulation of anti-militarist literature at tho agricultural show ground, Christchurch, and to the forcible ejectment of tho attendant thereat, and the seizing by tho police of the Pea-ce Council's exhibit. This conference calls upon all Labour and kindred organisations throughout Now Zealand to nrotest against this action, which means the end of l'reo 6poech in this country." To-night tho anti-military delegates hold a demonstration in tho Town Hall Concert Chamber, when speakers will deliver addresses of protest against the action taken, and a public protest will l>e made.
