WOLSELEY SHEARING MACHINERY.
[By Arrangement.] Tho Wolseley Sheep Shearing Machine Co. have this year, as \isnal, n particularly fine exhibit of their various and thoroughly up-to-date lypv\s of this class of farm machinery. Their 1!)11 improvements.are a fine tribute to tho sound progressive policy by which they have led th-3 world in tho evolution and manufacture of the machino shear, and brought its every detail up to the. high standard of perfection which modern shearing machinery has attained. Tho Wolseley exhibit proves unquestionably that the company aro still in tho van of all improvements along sound lines, and the honourable record of 30 years of infinitely careful and illuminating study of the needs of pastoralists should be a sufficient guarantee that no competitive firm pf ver.y recent, growth, working on a palicy of imitation, can hope to supply those half so well. Tho fact that tho W'olsoley Co. installed over 23G0 machines in Australia alone last year, which constitutes a record, speaks volumes for their great ond increasing popularity, and the present year's work (1911) will see an even greater number added to tho great army of enthusiastic owners and users of Wolseley machino shears. BIG FIGURES. There are more than 60,000 Wolseley machines in use at the present time, shearing about 90,000,000 sheep annually. No farmer should miss seeing tho working demonstration of the various types of shearing machinery -which is being given continuously during each day of the show. This demonstration will certainly be one of the most interesting to tho general farming public that could have been arranged for. Tho progressive spirit of the age has been caught and ably interpreted by the company in their adaptation of the great principle of electricity to the machine shear. Electricity is undoubtedly coming rapidly to the •ore in this as in all other branches of industry, and it has remained for the Wolseley Company to lead in the adaptation of this great modern power to the practical needs of tho woolgrower. BY ELECTRICITY. The company have erected this plant to illustrate to sheepowncrs how electricity may ho used in their shearing sheds and paddocks, and return equally good result* as with the old-established class of machines, and having tho additional advantage of making tho operation much cheaper and cleaner. The adaptability for all uses is ono of the fine features of electricity, and this is proved by its increasing popularity for pastoral purposes. It is also portable, extremely simple (no electrical knowledge necessary), minimum friction, noiseless, less power required to drive, and it can be installed in anv shed, however fragile, with the least, amo'unt ot trouble, no overhead gear being neccssary. Among the improvements in the ordinary gear this year is the new design handpiece adopted by the Wolseley Company after tho severest tests. It is claimed to be a great advance on anything yet placed on the market, both in general design and mechanical principle, and to be undoubtedly tho shearers' favourite, both in balance, perfect cutting, and running qualities. It contains six less wearing parts than tho old model, which has been so faithfully and flatteringly copied bv other firms. Tho now flexible tube is also a special feature of the exhibit, allowing. as it dees, tho fitting of the standard Wolseley gear in low sheds without alteration of either'machinery Or" shed. All Wolseley c'omhs and patented cutters aro now hand finished and made on a new improved model, and aro ready for immediate use. Among the other improvements are the serowle-ss back-joint, D spring for top tube, reinforced fork of a higher grade steel than formerly, and new flexible steel core. Tlieso special features are attractively set out on a wellarranged show case for inspection. PORTABLE MACHINES.
The Wolselev two-stand, portable, petroldriven shearing plant also forms part of t'ii-» effective exhibit. These kanay machines have proved themselves just the ideal outfit for the small farmer and contract shearer,, several owners having shorn 10,000 sheep each with their's last year. The portability of the outfit is one of its good features. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, agents, have fitted up their new promises in Wellington with the most up-to-date workshop of its kind in the Dominion, and extend a hearty invitation to all shipowners, their sons, or handy men who require thorough technical and practical knoivledgo in tho erection and running of sheep-shelving machinery, to spend a few days with their competent experts and instructors, free of charge, in ordor to get any instruction they might need. Mr. A. M. Hayman is in charge of the stand at the showgrounds, and with him are Mr. R. Nicholls, Mr. E. Gard, and Mr. Collin, v,'ho will be pleased to give all information to intending purchasers. Part of the Wolseley' machinery is being ran by a Tangye bt>nr.in» engine, of which make there are over 1000'ia uso in New Zealand.
