BOWLS.
PENNANT MATCHES TO-SfORRCW, Aflor a week's delay, caused through sodden greens, a start will bo made with the senior and junior Pennant matehca to-morrow, _ Thanks to a few days of warm sunshine the greens are looking .almost perfect for this time of (lie year. They arc expectcd to bo a littlo heavy this early in the season, but that is rather a virtue. Every care, it is advis?d, should be taken of the greens during the lwxt eight or ten weeks,' fx> that they may bo in apple-pie order for tho big association tournament which is tc bo held hero in January, and' which, it is averred, is to eclipse all other tournaments ever held in the North Island. Tho recent opinion of the Canterbury Bowling Centre that, the amalgamation of the North-?™ ami New Zealand (South Island) Association's would bo in the best interests of bowling has sent n ripplo of satisfaction through tho local ranks, and it is understood that the resolution, will go a long way towards paving the way to bring about nn amalgamation. There are some who hold that such a. union would not bo of much use, as each association has oil it can do at present to find accommodation for competitors at its animal tournaments. The difficulty, it is considered, could bo solved without much trouble. There would be at least two alterations—to rcduco the representation at championship tournaments by selections from the winners at centra tournaments, or to hold a big tournament at a point in each island, and then havo a champion, of chr-mpions tournament in tho most convenient tv.-titirc.
