ART AT THE SHOW.
Amongst the art exhibits of t'he showare some very line oil paintings by Mr. 11. W. ICirkwood, the well-known New Zealand artist, whose pictures have been widely known all over the Dominion for many years, and who has just added to an enviable reputation by the award of a silver medal for a collection of New Zealand oil paintings at the Feitival of Empire in 'September at the Crystal Palace, London. .Mr. Kirkwoqd has seven pictures on view at the present show, all depicting New Zealand landscape scenes. The principal of these are a splendid sunset effeci of the Motueka river, and a very pleasing view of Lake To Anau. Both pictures are triumphs in colour effects. Amongst the other views are: Millord Sound (a handsome scene); lagoon at Itiwaka, Nelson; Dusky Sound, and a pretty picture of Tory Channel. In connection with these views Mr. Kirkwood is arranging an art union to be drawn some time in December before the Mayor of 'Wanganui. Art pictures arc naturally very expensive, and Mr. Kirkwood is promoting the art union in order Is give tho. general public an opportunity of purchasing valuable home studies at a moderato price.
