SPORTS' PROTECTION.

SOME COMMENT ON THE LEAGUE. At the meeting of the Management Confmifteo of the Wellington Cricket Association last night, a letter from the Now Zealand Sports' Protection League was read. The letter notified that the first general meeting of members and delegates from sports' clubs and associations would be held at Messrs. Turnbull and Company's auction room to-night, to elect district president, vice-president, and to do general business. The league invited the association to bo represented at the meeting. Immediately it became evident that the association was divided as to whether or not it should be represented at the meeting. A remark by ope of the members caused Mr. M. F. Luckie to say that apart from tho fact that it was known that the league was for tho protection of racing, it professed to bo for the protection of all sports bodies. By sending a representative to the meeting they would not bo committing the association to anything. After they saw what the league was going to do, they could decide if thev would have anything to do with it. Mr. D. M'Kenzie: I think the real object of this body is to make use of the other sports bodies, and I don't see what cricket is going to gain. "We don't know that yet, Bomeono remarked. Mr. M'Kenzie: I do know that. One member of the committee said that as tho league was an anti-clerical affair, ho would like to see a cricket representative there. Mr. Luckie: We can mako moro use of them than they can of us. Members: Question! Tho other way about.

The voting on the motion was even. Mr. Luckie (who presided): I give, my casting vote in favour of the motion. Mr. M'Kenzio (to the secretary): Will you record that the motion was carried on the casting voto of the chairman.
