The magazine and bunkers were flooded and tho (ire extinguished. The Commission appointed to report as to tho cause of the explosion on the battleship Liberte says that tho catastrophe is attributable to tho ignition of gunpowder in tho cartridgo magazine. There is no proof that it was due to malevolence. The regulations were carried out with the greatest care, and tho officers aro absolved from blame.
