LIBERAL M.P.'S ELEVATED, By TelecraDh—Press Association—Corjricht (Rec-. Octobcr 24, 10.30 p.m.) London, October 24. Mr. Alfred Emmott, Chairman of Committees in the House of Commons, and Sir Edward Strachey, membcT for Somerset South, havo been elevated to the Peerage.

He was further honoured in 100S by ljoing added to the Privy Council.

Sir Edward Strachey received tho reward and a recognition of four years of hard work in a triple capacity when he was mado Parliamentary Secretary to tho lioard of Agriculture on the evo of tho January, JfllO, election. During tho period from the formation of Sir Henry Campboll-Bannermnn's Ministry to Christmas, laoa, ho not only acted as Treasurer of the Household and took his share of tho Whips' duties in the lobby, but lie acted also as tho representative in the House of Commons of the Board of Agriculture, I and in that capacity lie conducted tho Agricultural Holdings Bill of l!)t)ti, and the Small Holdings Bill of ISIO7 through the Commons with such tact and good temper that oven tho Opposition admitted that ho made two excellent Acts out of two very bad Bills. Tho member for South Somerset is an aristocrat, of an old county stock, with a passionate devotion to the cause of tho oldest industry in tho world.
