PROBABLE DIVISION OF DUTIES OF CHIEF RABBI. It is stated on authority that no new Chief Rabbi will be named as successor to the lato Dr. Adlcr as head of tho Jewish community in England somo lime. Tho final selection rests with tho council of the United Synagogue. Before, any choice is made the officers of the "United Synagogue are to consult with the representatives of the various l<rovincial congregations a.nd tlie executive of tho Conference of Ministers. These bodies iu consultation will inquire into tho ecclesiastical administration of the community, and evidence will bo advanced as to \vhat is mott needed and what action of tho United Synagogue will be most acccpt.iblo to tho general community.
It is considered likely that a decision will bo made to split up the duties attaching to the office of the Chief Rabbi. Previous public announcements ns to whom tho choice may fall upon have been unauthorised, and without knowledge of the inquiries and consultations that must bo conducted before tho nanio of Iho new Chief Rabbi can bo put fonvard.— "Daily Mail."
