Price) and Birklino (Porter) started off at the seven-furlongs post, but Birklino was scon lagging behind. Ermon<rarde was too Rood for Taffeta and Lady Georgia, over four furlongs, run in 50s:c. Cliampa.jne. .Tan, Stepney, and Styx were galloped four furlongs from a barrier start, finishing in tho order named in 51 l-ssec. The other horses working included Turbine, Monoline, Shnja, EJectrakoff, Altcar, Parablo, Sir Tristram,. Goldemar, Voetgang, Lord Kilohoran, Kiugswell, Makara, Eangiatua, Floater, Oka, Andraea, Domino, First Battery, Aloha, Oblitrant, Evadne. Mnscilin, Commodore, Vibration, ttsd Gold Battery. Hill Sunray. At a meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club, Mr. S. Cnndy was elected a vice-president in place of hid brother, the late Mr. J. S. Cundy, and Mr. A. Campbell PeaTce was elected a steward of the club. The appointment of a starter was held over. In connection with the Canterbury Jockey Club's metropolitan meeting owners aro reminded that acceptances for tho New Zealand Cup and Stewards' Handicap close at 8 o'clock to-night with the secretary. Mr. W. H. E. Wanklyn. First forfeits for the Welcome Stakes, Derby, <md Oaks, and also general entries aro due at the same time. Bobrikoff and Beldame were due at Trentham last night from Napier. Gold Thread has been mated with the imparted horse Hymottus. Jockey A. Whittaker has returned to Auckland from Sydney. C. Cochrane, who was seriously injured at the Grand National meeting, hopes to return to the saddle at tho Waverley meeting on Monday next. Golden Eagle has foaled a filly to Ghoorka's half-brother, Lord Grafton. Tho Victoriam Amateur Turf Club's meeting will bo concluded at Caulfield on Saturday, when the principal event to be decided is tho Caulfield Cup, one mile and a half. A. Ncale will start Rangiatua and Oommodo-ro at Trentham, while Gold Battery and Vibration will bs that trainer's team for Riccarton.

Patrick Burke, aged 1G years, residing at 15 Edinborough Terrace, was admitted to the hospital yesterday alternoon suffering from a severe cut on tho wrist. 'The accident was caused through the lad tailing on a planing machine at a carpenter's shop where he is employed. THE BROUGHAM STREET CASE. Tho adjourned inqnest concerning a newly-born male child which was found dead in a vacant section in Brougham Street on October 3 was concluded yesterday afternoon. The only other evidence taken was that, of Detective Kawle, who deposed to finding the body and taking it to tho morgue. Tho coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthur) returned a verdict that the child had been found dead, and that there was no evidence to show how it came to bo where it was found. ACCIDENTAL DEATH. (By TelczraDh.—Pv»ss Association.! At the inquest on William Coppell, who died in the hospital yesterday as a result of injuries received irom a fall of earth at Craig's brickyard at Avondale, a verdict of accidental death was returned.
