LIVE STOCK SALES.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their fortnightly sale at Upper Ifutt yesterday. Owing to tho unfavourable wcathor, stock did not come forward up to advertised. numbers, but a total clearance was made of all sheep and cattlo yarded. The following prices were reajised :—Old ewes, with 50 per cent, lambs, lis. IC'd.;- springing cows, £4 Js. 6d. to £5 23. 6d.; fat cows (light), £3 15s. to £4 165.; low-conditioned store cows, £2 to £2 ss. 6d.; three-year heifers in calf, £3 10s.: empty heifers, £2 2s. 6d.; yearling heifers, £2 ss. to £2 9s. 6d.; bulls, £2 lCs. to £3 10s.
The New Zealand' Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Palmerston North), report:—On Monday wo held tho usual monthly .sale at Raumaj. A fair entry came forward, tho bulk of which changed hands at-late rates. On tho tame day we held a dairy sale at Himitangi on account of Mr. H. ,T. Burrell. _ The stock were in low condition, but elicited keen competition, and sold well. At Palmer?lon on Thursday a small entry came forwn-d, and all lines wore sold. We quota:—R.->u-mai; Empty heifers, £3 Bs. to £3 12*;. 6<1.; yearling steers. £2 65.; heifers in calf, £3 153.: springing heifers. £4 UX to £6: springing cows, £5 to £9 17s. 6d.: empty cows, £3 12s. 6d. Mr. Burrell's ss'c: Br.iry cows. £5 sn. to £11 E-r,:. average. £3 <s.; springing heifers, £4 15s. to £8: cmitty two-year heifers. £4; store cows, £3 9s. Cd.: cows and calves, £3 17s. Palraerston North: Sheep-Ewes and iambs, lbs. Id. to 18s.; light fat eves, 155.: wether hoggot3, lis. lid.; ewe hoggets, 133. Cattle: Store coivs, £3 6s. 6d. SPRING CATTLE FAIR. The fourth annual spring cattle fair, conducted by Messrs. Dalgcty and Company, Ltd., and tho Now Zoaland Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., on behalf of Mr. E. A. M'Kenzie, was hcM at the new saleyards, Boundary Bead, Palmer-, ston North, on Tuesday. There was a, iarge attendance of buyers, but competition was not so keen aa in previous years, owing no doubt to the dearth of cattlefco.'l in the up-country districts. There were 4160 head of various classes of cattle yarded, tho whole being well-bred elation .lines of Shorthorn. Ilerefords, and Polled Angua. As in tho past, these wore excellently drafted by Mr. M'Konzie, and the cattle looked well, although they did not carry much condition—tho result of the recent dry autumn and winter. The following are the ouotations of principal lines:—Bo yearling Hereford cress heifers. £2 135., J. Heckler. Mauricovillo: 50 yearling Hereford heifers, £3 145.. H. Y. Hammond, Himitangi; 49 three-year steers, £5 Bs. Cd., 'W. B. V. Pearce, Eangiotu; 145 Palled Angus yearling steers, £3 Is. 6d., Anderson Bros., Eketahuna; 93 Shorthorn yearling steer.*. £3 10s., Anderso? Bros., Eketahuna; 300 Polled Angus yearling steers, £3 155., M. Morrison, Moawhango; 250 Polled Angus yearling steers, £3 145., M. Morrison; 47 Hereford yearling steers, £3.185. 6d., A. J.
