AT THE MARKETS.

A KEEN DEMAND FOR FRUIT. During the past week, there has been n keen demand for all local and imported fruit at the Blair and Allen Street markets. Supplies have arrived from South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, California, Fiji, and tho Cook Islands, and the market has also been largely supplied with locally-grown products. Prices ranged as under:—Australian oranges, Bs. to 10s.; mandarins, 7s. (id. to 12s. !)d.; pineapples, Bs. to Ills.; passion fruit, 10s. to 165.; lemons, Cs. to !)s.; Mildura lemons were not in good order, but .sold ss. to lis. case; Tasmanian sturmer applies brought lis. lo 135.; about 2000 cases of Californian apples. arrived and sold at 15s. to 18s.; the apples were carried in cool stores, and arrived in good condition, although a few cases showed snow. Fiji bananas met good competition, the prices being 10s. to IGs. case. Karotonga bananas made Bs. Cd. to Us. linrotongn pineapnles were too green, and sold at'ss. to 10s. Havotcnga oranges arrived in bad condition, and only brought 3s. to Gs. Rhubarb made 4s. to Cs. per dozen; cucumbers, ltd. to 71(1.; lettuce, 3s. to ss. Od. per ca=e; Californian pears, 7s. to Bs. per half-box; asparagus, sd. to Is. 2d. bunch, according to size; cabbages, 3s. to Gs. each; cauliflowers, Gs. to 10s. sack.
