BOXING. CAPITAL EVENT AT HASTINGS.' BROMWICH AND GRIFFIN. (Dy Telegraph—Special CorrosDOß4ent.) Napier, October 12. At the Hawko's Hay boxing championships, which were hold at tho Princess Theatre, Hastings, this evening, the principal attraction was tho bout between. "Jack" Griffin, of Greymouih (Osfc. llllb.) and "All" Bromwich, of Paeroa (9st. Mb.) for a purse of A'SO. As the men entered tho ring Griffia looked much, bigger and stronger than his opponent who, however, showed admirable, fool-work, and ho also introduced, a smart left and vigorous right; Griffin, on tho other band, soorodall tho timo at in-lighting, inflicting considerablo punishment whenever they came to clos» quarters. In tho fifth round Griffin caught Bromwich with a solid punch and, following up his advantage smartly, had tho Paeroa lad in a bad way. Ho was almost down and out but taking the full count was saved by the gong. Bromwich recovered sufficiently to keep out of harm's way in tho succeeding round, and tho remainder of the- contest? provided a most interesting competition. Griffin still looked all over a ivinnor. but Bromwich landed a short jolt in tho fourteenth round, which completely altered tho complexion of things. Griffin, went to tho floor, and finished the round decidedly tho worse for wear. In the fifteenth and last round both, men cut loose, Bromwich, on the whole having tho better of a vigorous rally. Ths rcforeo (Mr. M'Grcgor) awarded the contest to Bromwich—a decision which, however, failed to satisfy the bulk of tho spectators. The bout was contested in a thoroughly sportsmanlike maimer and was considered one of tho best ever 6oen in Hastings. KELLY AND GAULT.
