WRECK NEAR NEWCASTLE.
TWENTY PERSONS MISSING. By Telegraph-Press Assootation-Copjrlglit (Rec. October 12, 9.25 p.m.) Sydney, October 12. The steamer Macleay is ashore at Bronghton Island, about fifty miles northeast of Newcastle. The particulars to' hand are meagre, but it is feared that the vessel is a total wreck, and that lives have been lost. Two sailors came ashore on planes. They staled that they feared the vessel was breaking up. Wreckage is coming ashore near Newcastle and is supposed to be from i-'he Macleay. Two tugs have been dispatched to Broughton Island. The Macleay had no passengers aboard, but tho crew numbered twenty, and only two are known to have been saved. The vessel is of about 400 tons gross, | and belonged to the North Coast Steam Navigation Company. iShe was bound from Newcastle to Clarence River, and is supposed to have foundered in a fog. i
