(From Our Special' Correspondent.) Mastodon, October 10. Sir. Orlando Pragnell lias given notice to move at tho monthly meeting of t'lio Jlasterton Trust Lands Trustees, • to 1» held on Friday next: (I) That a special committee bo set up to draft rules and regulations governing tho granting oi scholarships; (2) that such committee mafeo a recommendation as to tlw number of scholarships to be awarded in proportion to tho number of candidates. Tho tender of Messrs. Welch aild Hope, at .£1172 ss. Gd., has been accepted by the Jlasterton Racing Club for the erection of tho new grandstand on tho Opaki racecourse. Four tenders were received. A meeting of tho executive of tho Jlasterton Competitions Society was held last evening, when it was decided tint the society bo incorporated forthwith. A set of rules, as drafted by a sub-committee, were adopted with certain amendments, and ordered to be sent to tho Registrar of Friendly Societies. The secretary was instructed to call tho annual meeting as soon as possible after the receipt of.the certificate of registration.

A meeting ot the Horticultural Comrnitteo of tho Masterton A. and P. Association is to Ijo held on Friday afternoon next, to revise tho horticultural classes for 1912. Councillor John Morris, whose health' has been indifferent of late, has decided not to offer himself for re-elcction to the Masterton County Council. The ordinary, meeting of otonehengo Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held in Jlasterton last evening, Bro. P. Corbctt, A.D., presiding. Ono candidate was initiated. Bro. Gourlay, 011 behalf of the Royal Arch Chapter, brought down a lengthy and comprehensive report on the Chapter's work, whioh was unanimously adopted by tho lodge. Docking operations were completed on tho Matahiwi estate yesterday. About ono. hundred per cent, of lambs was obtained from 5000 ewes. The Masterton bowling greens, which are in splendid playing order, are to Iw opened for the season on Thursday next. Visiting bowlers are expccted from tho Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Greytown, and Carterton Clubs. At a meeting of directors of the Masterton Co-operativo Dairy Company, it was decided to rnako a call of 2s. (id. per share. Mr. Matthews, 1 of Wangnehu, Jlasterton, has purchased a farm at Martinborough from Mr. A. M'Laren. Mr. W. D. Watson, of Masterton, lias been appointed judge of light, hoists at tho AVnikato and Wangaiiui shows. The Masterton Borough Council decided to-night, in view of tlio unsettled state of tho coastal steamer service, to lay in an extra supply of coal for tho loivil gasworks. Tho Masterton County and Borough Councils to-day appointed delegates to tho conference to be held hero on October 21, to eousider the question of an agricultural school for the Wairarapa.
