BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
(By Tclcgranli.—Press Association.) Napier, October 10. The Baptist Conference was continued to-day. The chief business was tho election of ofiicers and standing committees. The Rev, 11. ICnowles Kompton (Auckland) was elected president; Mr. .T. G. Fraser (Christciiureh) vice-president j tho Rev. R. S. Gray, secretary; Mr. A. P. Carey, treasurer; the Rev.'Alfred North, financial secretary. The Rev. Alfred North (Ponsonby.i was appointed Home Mission superintendent and travelling organiser at a salary of .€250 and expenses. A students' committee Mas elected comprising tho Revs. A. Williams (convener), I J. J. North, J. K. Archer, A. it. Wilson, and Mr. A. S. Adams. .Mr. J], 11. Driver was re-elected editor of tho "New Zealand Baptist," and the Rev. E. JT. Hobday subeditor. A committed consisting of tho following was set up to consider and formulate a scheme lor the removal and settlement of ministers, namely, the Revs. K. Kompton, Buckingham, J. J. North. H. Elliott, It. S. Gray, and P. A. Radford, Messrs. G. Carson, and 11. M. Snieeton. The folbwing wero elected a Sunday School Committee: — Messrs. W. G. Shearer (convener), W. Donovan, li. Edwards, T. P. Thompson, It. O'Connor, and P. C. Gray. Tho Rev. K. Kempton was elected convener of the Board of Introduction and Advice. The Rev. T. Kirk Ewen was clected union preacher, and the Rev. Howard Elliott deputy preache'. - . A literature committee was appointed consisting of the following: tho Revs. Howard Elliott (convenor), A. North, W. It. Woolley, and Mr. It. S. Abel. Tho Annuity Fjnd Committee was rc-appointel with Mr. R. S. Abel as secretary, and Mr. H. M. Smeeton as treasurer. The Manso Fund Committee was' re-ekcted, with the addition of Mr. T. E. ToneyeliiTo (convener). The Rev. W. R. Woolley was reappointed Registrar and Recorder. Messrs T. E. Whitto.i and Heaton Barker wero appointed auditors. An Executive Committee was clc-ctcd consisting of tho Revs. Kemp toil, Kirkwood, an., J. .T. North, .1. K. Archer, A. S. Wilson, R. S. Gray, T. A. Williams, C. D. Gardiner, C. Dallaston, W. Hay, 13. A. Hobday, and A. North, Messrs. Smeeton, Tonevcliffe, Carson, Catlue. Holwg, Mackto, Chidgey, A. F. Carey, Fraser, Milligan, Adams, and Driver. The conferenco is appointed to sit next year in Christ church.
In the evening a Homo Mission demonstration was held. The chair was taken by .Mr. A. J'. C'arev, of Christchurch. Speeches ivore delivered by the Ifevs.. Guy- -Thornton • (Ohakune), Bris Eviitii; (WhStigarfci),' and A. S. Wilson. The story of work in backhlocks pnved very-.interesting to.n large congregation. The annual meeting: of th'ft Baptist Young Women's Bible Cl.iss Union was held in (lie afternoon. Mis. Are her, vice-presi-dent, presided, Reports were received from the various classes. Mrs. Hobv (Wellington) was elected president for !li:i ensuing year. It Mas decided that the funds of the union bo divided between the Home and Foreign Missions.
