THE TOTALISATOR.
DENUNCIATION BY A NEW ZEA- . LANDER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, October 10. Mr. Mason, who had charge of the late Mr. G. G. Stead's racehorses, and is now trainer to Mr. G. D. Greenwood, in an interview strongly condemned tho totalisator. Ho declared that "tote" betting has become such a crazo in Now Zealand that many workers have not a penny to draw at tho end of tho week. This was ono of tho greatest cursca of the totalizator business. Butchers and bakers, declared Mr. Mason, had to go without money while many of their debtors splashed it on tho "tote." Ho had seen women tear their clothes in the mad rush to get tickets.
Racing in the Dominion was now chcap and nasty, and most of the studmasters, said Mr. Mason, had been forced to 6ell out, and those remaining sent most ot their , yearlings to Sydney; where better prices wero obtainable, because there was no totalisator in existence.
