Mr. Tudor, Minister for Customs, has initiated negotiations with New Zealand regarding reciprocity by dispatching a request for information. Ho'intends shortly to communicate with Canada. Sir Joscpn Ward's announcement • that he would be glad to enter into an agreement similar to the ono with South Africa is regarded as touching merely the fringe of the subject.. The' Commonwealth is more likely to want an agreement similar to that between New Zealand and Canada. Mr. Fisher, the Commonwealth Prime Minister, -is an ardent- advocate of reciprocity, declaring that it must draw the countries nearer together. Speaking at tho Scotch College, Mr. Fisher declared that he hoped-that in a few.years New Zcoland would be linked with Australia, and associated not only in defence but in commercial progress.'
