NATIVE MINISTER'S STATEMENT.
The Native Minister (Sir James Carroll), when seen l)v a reporter, had wry little fa Kiv about tiro resignation, of Mr. Kcefer, President of tho Usunnvliiti Maori Land Hoard. Mr. Kei'teir, according t<> a special Dominion' telegram from (jisborne, mid that his resignation was duo to Ins rraontmont at "interference and dictation from the Under-Secretary for Native At- ' Sir James Carroll said that Mr. Kcrfor was evidently dissalisltal and he had a perfect right'te oxr/ross his dissatisfaction. There had Iwii a difference in the m» terprniation of tho powers exercisable by Mr. Kcefer. "I do not question his views, added the Minister, "and I am only sorry we are losing a good man." Mr. T. W. Fisher, Under-Secretary for Native A (fail's, was also seen by tho reporter, lie said ho was at a. los-; to know where he had dhown any want of cotirtesv as alleged by Mr. Kcefer, but ho declined to make any further statement.
