An Australian-New Zealand Wedding. The marriage of Archio M'Koliar, youngest sou of tue late Mr. William Nicol, New Zealand, ami Leolyu Peel, oniy daughter of Mrs. Harvey Patterson and of tlte late Mr. W. P. bharp, took place at Elcho, Lara, the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Patterson, on Saturday, September 16. The service was conducted by Canon. Sutton, vicar of Holy 'irimly, Kew, assisted by the Rev. T. Redhead, Vicar of Christ Church, Lara. The ceremony took place in the dining-room, which was 'beautifully decorated with- white-and pink blossom, and a large arch and silver bells. 'Ilie brido wore an exquisite white embroidered Ariglaisic, inlet with French Valenciennes over satin slip, tulle veil, wreath of oranffe blossom and bouquet of lilies of the valley and Marguerite daisies. She was given away by her step-father, Mr. Harvey Patterson. -Miss Olive Bird, youngest daughter, of the lato Dr. Bird, was bridesmaid, in white embroidery, whito Tagel hat; powder-blue wreath,and lining sash to match'. The bridegroom's μ-ift to her was a handsome bag with gold fi'.Hnas. Mr. Stanley Shields was Wit man. Breakfast was held in the i billiardroom, which was decorated in violet and groy—Mr. Patterson's racing colours. The cake was quite unique. Instead of the usual flowers, the centre ornament was a beautiful-model of-a horse, with-horse-shoes, jockeys, hurdles, etc., in sugar, all round. The brido travelled in a Tussore coat and skirt; motor bonnet of whito, and royal blue veiling. There were many beautiful 'presents from the staff and people of the village. Tho wedding was unconventional, but very pretty. Carnival and Sale of Work at Kilbirnie. A grand carnival and sale of work., held by members of the congregations of tho united Kilbirnie- Maranui Mefchcdist Churches was opened in O'Doniuell's Hall, Kilbirnie,. yesterday aftwnoon, by the .Mayor of llir-aninr, Mr. Brodie. A argo number of people were present at the opening ceremony. Mr. Brodie, who ivas accompanied by Mrs. Brodic, in the ;ourse of his .speech, touched upon the growth of the church work in both Kiluirnio and Maranui, which necessitated the building of a new church, and ho scr.grarulated these present upon such a ;atisfa'.l-ory state of affairs, "f ho hall was ;aiiy decorated with bunting, and every stall was draped with tho patriotic, col)urs. All kinds of useful and ornamental rrticles' were to bo scon, the quantity of ■'din sowing being quite a feature of tho jeeasion. A large boat, hung with quaiiiitres of flags, and filled with toys of all inscriptions,-was , launched by Mrs. J. P. [yuke, after "which a sailor chorus was sung by a number of children. _ Sid-o imusemonts were very much in evidence, ind various kinds of competitions. In the evening tho chief attraction-was the lancing of the maypole, under the direction of Mr. Just, and contributions by ■lie Central Mission Band, as mil as orchestral music, v;oto much enjoyed. Hover, Matheson, Martin, E. Fear, and Crowes. The carnival is open this afternoon and evening, a niatinec for children taking place. Obituary, Many will regret to bear of the death of Miss Pye, which took place on Tuesday after a'prolonged illness. The deceased lady was noted for her kindness of heart and thoughtfulnoss for others. Sha arrived in New Zealand from Ireland several years ago, and for some time was housekeeper to Sir Henry and Lady I'itzberbort. Her brother and some nieces and nephews lived with her. A shi:rt funeral service was huld yesterday at St. Paul's. Another old identity lia-s passed away in Auckland in the person of Mrs. Ehra-l.-th Fairs, widow of the lato Mr. T. A. Atkinson, stage ma.nngcr of the Auckland Amateur Or.OTa S>cio!y, died at lier husband's resilience, Francis Street, Richmond, on Sunday last, after an illness tli.it oiily lasted three days. The late Mrs. Atkinson was well known in musical circles, and on many occasions freely Rave her service* on the concert platform, both as a pianist and vocalist. Pupils' Dance at Wannanui. The concluding dance of tho season of Miss Eleanor Hionis" pupils was held on Friday evening loft at Wanganui in the Firo 'Brigade Hall. There was a largo gathering and a number of parents were, present. Tho supper table was very prettily decorated with red (lowers and fancy baskets. It was a pretty eight to see tho children going through tlio different figures of (ilio various square dances without a mistake, and their graceful movemomtt in tho round dances bore evidence of the careful training they had received. Extras were played by Mrs. J. C. Greenwood, and very great liolp was kindly given by Miss Cissy Watt. Mr. and Mrs. Skeet (Carterton) are on a brief visit to town. Miss Monckton (Featherston), and her sister are visitors to Wellington. Miss Joan Cleghorn, who has been staying with Mrs. Kcbbell (Nga Kata), has returned to Wellington. Mrs. Mathew Holmes and Miss Eaw6on returned to Wellington from Sydney yesterday. Miss Westmacott who has been staying with Mrs. F. M. B.
