WHAT WATERSIDE WORKERS WANT. Tho New Zealand Federation of Waterside Workers and tho Wellington Waterside Workers' Union have- given notice, to manufacturers and shippers of Portland cement' and limo that on and after January no cement will bo handled by members «f the union unless enclosed in casks or paper-lined tofi.s. They hnvo also given notice that ships' holds must bo thorouijhly cleansed and fumigated beforo men begin work in them. Tho secretary of tho Wellington Union. ■(Mr. Smith) says that these advantages have been obtained in Australia. They aro necessary, he adds, in tho interest' of the health of tho men and aro reasonable requests which ho thinks will be viewed reasonably by tho other side!. He thinks that in time such articles as basio slag, American plaster, bone-dust, and superphosphates vail be packed in paperlined bags.
