INCREASES IN OFFICERS' SALARIES DESIRED, (By TclecraDli.—Press Association.) Auckland, October 1. The officers of the coastal steamers recently filed an application for an award under the Arbitration Act. It was thought the application would come before tho Court at tMe sitting in Auckland; but in view of the action taken by the officers in the south it is probablo the application for an award will bo withdrawn. The officers had asked for an increaso in salaries, eight hours a day, and overtime at 2s. Gd. an hour. Tho Seamen's Union at Auckland passed .a resolution in favour of breaking away from the Arbitration Act, but only a small proportion of members were present.
