HOSPITAL ABUSE.
Sir,—The Wellington Hospital _ and Ch&ritable Aid Board is making a special appeal for funds on Hospital Saturday arid Sunday mainly to increase out-pati-ent accommodation at the Wellington Hospital. If this appeal docs not meet with a hearty response, it will be littlo wonder, and the public may rest assured that no deserving person will suffer thereby, and the Hospital Board may be taught'a salutary lesson. What are the facts? Over 5000 out-patients were attended at the public hospital in Wellington last year, and about 1700 at the Dunedin Hospital. Is there three times-more poverty in Wellington than in Dunedin? Certainly not. The explanation lies in the fact that the Wellington Board prefers to ask for more money rather than exercise proper supervision. Extravagance in hospital affairs in Wellington does not appear to diminish. The best way for the Wellington Board to spend money at present is to iiay two or tlireo members of tho Dunedin Board to come to Wellington i'or a week and show how: a hospital can be efficiently and. at the same time, economically managed.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER,
