BOWLS.

KAHORI GREEN OPENED. Although the weather conditions were uot favourable last week to a keen green, yet tho bright sunshine and gentle tn\ezo of Saturday morning enabled the Karori Club to open tho Reason by having enjoyable games on the green. Thirty-eight players competed in the contest, President v. Vice-President, 'the latter winning by 115 to 89. The air was chilly, and the green somewhat heavy, but nevertheless it played true. Great credit is due to the caretaker, Mr. G. Crawford, for his untiring efforts in getting the green in perfect condition. The president, Mr. W. F. Newcombe, in a happy speech, referred to the condition of the club, welcomed tho visitors, asked Airs. Newcombe to throw the jaclc, and then declared the season open. Visitors, with their lady friends, came from most of the city clubs, and these, with local members and frionds, numbered about one hundred. Afternoon tea was provided by tho president, and Mrs. Newcombe and her lady helpers' are to lie' congratulated on their tasteful decorations with blooms of tho colours of tho club. Tho following are tho teams and scores —the president's teams being first:— Cook, Sunley, Bradnock, Price (s.), 13. ,T. Smith, Ci Smith, Crawford, Shearer (s.), 18. Malin, Atkin, Gregg, Hopo (s.), 13. Eagle, Watchman, Cooper, Iver (s.), 21. Fulton, Shortt, Magnus (s.), 22. Wright, Bennett, Munt (s.), 24. Neville, M'Lennan, Nimmo, Adams (s.), 20. EASTBOURNE CLUB. 1 The following are extracts from the annual report of the Eastbourne Bowling Club, which is to be presented .at the annual general meeting on Wednesday evening :—"The club competitions were a source ol enjoyment. Mr. J. C. Fleming won tho president's trophy and club championship, tho runner-up being tho late Mr. T. Foley.. The Wills trophy was won by Mr: H. W. Shortt, the runnerup being Mr. J. Morris. It is with great regret that we liavo to record tho death of two of our most respected members, Messrs. J. ■ C. . Holworthy and T. Foley. The late Mr., Foley, who was an expresidaut of the club, and held tho office of vice-president at the time of his death, took a very keen interest in the management of the club. His services were invaluable. Both of the late lamented members were deservedly popular on the preen, and their many kindnesses will live in the memory of. these who were fortunate enough.to know them. It is confidently anticipated that thero will bo a very fine playing green this season.' Tho possibility of establishing a new full-sized green for the club was seriously considered by the committee, and a sub-commit-tee was set lip to obtain all'information and to report thereon to a general meeting. The sub-committee found that tho financial side of the proposal made it quite impracticable at the present time. The finances of the club are satisfactory, considering the small membership, and the improvements carried out during the year. "The hearty thanks of tho cTu!) are again due to the" ladies for tho kind and attentive services rendered in tho matter of afternoon ten, also to Mr. W. F. Shortt for his continuod kindness in placing his ground at the club's service."
