PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, September 29. The Manawatu Philosophical Society held its monthly meeting at the Opera Housa last night, when there was a cowl attendance. Captain Hewitt, R.N., presided. 'l'hc chairman stated that, in the course of a few days, the museum would be removed from its present narrow limits in tlio library to more commodious rooms at tlio old fire brigade station. A number of extra exhibits had been promised by residents, and they would be able lo mako quite a nico display. During the meeting Mr. J. E. Vernon, rector of the High School, gave an address on local rainfall and weather. A tennis club is being formed by tlio ladies of Ashhurst. Loyal Manawatu Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., met last evening, when thero was a good attendance. N.G. Bro. AV. E. Mathicson occupied the chair. Olio new member was proposed. At tlio conclusion of the lodge business a draughts, tournament was played, the first prize bciiiE won by Bro. 11. J. Taylor. Mr. AY. T. AVard, formerly postmaster here, but now stationed at Nelson, is on a visit to Palmerston.
