On tho following Wednesday a monster tea meeting was held, at which nearly the entire population of Wellington was present. Half the seats'in that church had locks and keys, tho seatholders retaining the keys, and the other half of tho seats consisted of bare benches,.called "free seats." That church was destroyed by an earthquake in 18-tS. A new church in wood was built in 1850. In 18-55 a pipo organ was erected in it, the first pipo organ in tny Weslcvan Church in the Dominion. In 1808 another church was erected on the old site to replaco that which was destroyed by firo in 187!). The pipes of the organ wore saved and piled up outside,, but theso were rr-n----deral unfit for further use by tho people standing ou them to watch tho fire. The Wcsleyans then worshipped in the Arcade, in Manners Street, and in tSSfI the present commodious church, seating 1200 people, was crccted in Taranaki Street. After tho perfonnnnco of "Sergeant Brue" at tho Opera House last evening, the members of the company assembled behind tho scenes and tendered birthday felicitations to Mr. D. Shortland, who was the recipient of a set of razors as a memento of his anniversary. No delays, no inconvenience, no haphazard methods when you employ tho N.Z. Express Co. to remove your 'furniture.
