Wedding at the Baptist Church, Berhampore. At the Baptist Church, Berhampore, yesterday afternoon, the marriage was celebrated, by the Rev. Mr. Ewan, of Miss M'lnues, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M'lnness, Melrose, and Mr. William G. Jnpp, second son of Mr. W. J. Jupp, of 'Wellington. The bride wore a very pretty frock of cream ninon with a wreath of "orange blossoms and a veil, and she carried a bouquet of white flowers. Miss M'lnnos (sister of the bride) and Miss Mexted were the bridesmaids, both wearing frocks of cream voilo trimmed with heliotrope and hats and bouquets to match. Mr. Harry Driver (Wellington) was the best man, and 3lr. H. Reid (Clareville) groomsman. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a gold watch and chain. To the chief bridesmaid was given a gold necklet and pendant, and to Miss Mexted a gold brooch set with emeralds and pearls. A reception was held in the Masonic Hall, Adelaide Road. Danco at Island Bay. The danco which was given in the Town Hall at Island Bay by Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Lockwood last evening for the Misses F. and 31. Lockwood, who are over on a Visit to .New Zealand from Australia, was greatly enjoyed. The main room had been decorated with foliage and with baskets of red camellias suspended from the gasoiiors, while the stage had been carpeted and comfortably furnished for those who were oitlicr wajching the dancers or else playing cards. Supper was 6erved in an adjoining room, the tables being arranged with pot palms and spring flowers. Mrs. Lockwood, who was assisted in receiving the guests by Mr. Lockwood, wore a becoming frock of saxe blue voile with pointed tunic effect, the bodice and skirt being outlined with gold embroideries. Miss P. Lockwood was wearing a.princess frock of grey oolienno with crystal embroideries; Miss M. Lockwood, pale blue frock with gold and pearl embroideries. Among those present were: Mrs. Fotheringham, wearing white satin, the bodice and skirt trimmed with pearl embroidery; Mrs. H. James, white satin with overdress of black lace; Mrs. Griffiths, black silk; Mrs. Kc'ade, crimson silk with bands of deeper shade; Mrs. Richardson, soft grey silk frock with handsome embroideries; Miss Kichardson, ' white ninon frock; Mrs. Harper, white silk muslin; Miss Collins, frock of white ninon, the tunic bordered with floral design; Miss Luke, white silk inusiin with deep hoin. of satin bordering the skirt; Mrs. Porter, blue satin; Mrs. Gustofsem, white muslin frock and lace; Mrs. Hart, blue satin," Mrs. "Odlin, cream frock trimmed with lace; Miss Schoch, white ninon with white satin bands; Miss Lind, frock of white ninon; Miss. Griffiths, white ninon frock bordered with pink silk; Miss M'Fwan, white muslin; Miss Anderson, white net over blue silk; , Miss Readc, white muslin frock'; Miss Wilkenny, white frock. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs. and Miss Colo and Mrs. Cook, and it was at an early hour in the morning when the dance was concluded. A Barren Experiment. Victoria's initial effort in the importation of domestics has not proved altogether satisfactory (says tho "Daily Telegraph"). Koports slate that two of tho party came on board at Adelaide somewhat under the influence of drink, and, in addition, there were one or two whoso diction was pretty coarse. Some of the contingent are not experienced domestic helps, and their references are not all satisfactory. They were written for by friends or relatives, more than by employers or responsible persons. The Victorian Minister for Lands slated recently that, in future, reference would have to be given by.clergymen or other responsible persons before applicants could be accepted. The engagement is announced of Miss Sophie Petersen, daughter of Mr. H. C. Petersen, of Kcefton, to Mr. L. St. Leonards Humphrey, of Marton. Mr. and Mrs. Coom (Makuri) are spending a few days in Wellington, and arc staying at the Eoyal' Oak. Mrs. Goring Johnston (PalmeTston) and Miss G. Cameron are staying at the Eoyal Oak. A class in first aid for ladies will be commenced by Dr. Gunn on Friday of next week, under the auspices of the St. •John's Ambulance Association. Mr. and Mrs. J. M'Eae, of "Wcraiti" (Mastcrton), are leaving next mouth by the Eotorua on a prolonged visit to England. Yesterday' afternoon, at Masterton, •Mrs. Norman Beetham gave a farewell tea for Mrs. M'Eae. Mrs. Mathew Holmes returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to Sydney. News has been received in Duuedin of tho marriage of Miss Hocken, daughter of tho late Dr. Hocken, to Mr. de Francois, Nagasaki, Japan. Mrs. Stott returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to England. Miss Eileen Ward was a passenger' to Wellington by the Sydney boat yesterday, returning from a very interesting visit to Europe. The engagement is announced of Mr. Launcolot Hayter, second son of the late Commander F. Hayter, E.N., of Burke's Pass (New Zealand), to Miss Edith Jones, elder daughter of Mr. J. Egerton Jones, of Fullarton Estate (S.A.). Mrs. Vigor Brown and Miss Brown arrived in town on Tuesday from Napier. Mrs. and Miss White, Porangahau, are spending a few days in Napier. The death is announced from Eketahuna of Mrs. E. Priosr, a well-known resident of that town. At St. Joseph's Church, Buckle Street, the marriage was celebrated on September 21 of Miss Kathleen Gallagher, fourth daughter of -Mrs. Gallagher.
