AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

LOCAL CENTRE DISPLEASED. A meeting of tho Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, there being pre-ent Messrs. Guise (chairman), Heenan, Burnett, Jordan, Laraberg, Trovers, and Dunn (hon. secretary). The Athletic Football Sports Club wrote, appointing Mr. J. Heenan its dologato on the centre. A sub-committee, c-onsistinp of Messrs. Dunn, Lamberg, a.nd Beaven, was appointed to arrange details in connection with the teams road race. The centre agreed to bear half the expenses of tho race. Tho siib-comiaittco submitted a report of the proposed amendments to the rules. It was decided to forward copies to the clubs for consideration prior to discussionat the annual meeting. Considerable discussion took placo in connection with certain voluminous correspondence from Mr. Fleming R«s and the council of the association with regard to the validity or otherwise of the new rules of tho council. Finally it was resolved a.s follows, on the motion of Mr. Hc?-nan, seconded by Mr. Travcrs:— "That this centre, havins given duo consideration to the iotters, dated August 28 and September 7, from Mr. Ross, September 1 from Mr. Chaffcy (president of the- N.Z.A.A.A.), and August 8 from the secretary of the N.Z.A.A.A., respecting the proceduro adopted in dealing with tho new rules of the N.Z.A.A.A., regrets that tlio valuable time of the council of tho N.Z.A.A.A. has been wasted in a discussion which can lead to little good, and that this centre is of the opinion that the action of Mr. Ross in persisting with his protest at the present juncture, when matters, of greater importance—tho Australasian and New Zealand championship —urgently require the attention of the council, is iuimicable to tho best interests of amateur athletics."
