G., Shera, who was found dead in the NewZealand Insurance Coinpany'3 oflica on Thursday morning, showed that deceased was subject to recurring fits of depression as 'tho result of mnlaria contracted during '.'the South- African War." The police found' a niimboj : of telegrams' nmongst the deceased's effects referring to racing, and a ch'o.lno book showed transactions with different bookmakers. Tho coroner returned a verdict of death from a gunshot wound, self-administered, evidence as to.tho state of his mind boing inconclusive. DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. Christchureh,. September 21 Mrs. Mounsey, a widow, 71 year? -f ngo. fliec! suddenly this morning. .. At .tho id 2 nest the coroner recorded a verdict that eceased died of heart failuro. BODY OF A MAN FOUND. Timaru, September' 22. The body of a man named O'Shea, aged about GO years, was found at Rocks Harbour this morning. The skull was smashed, and the neck broken. It is supposed he had been dead for • hours. As little was known of the man, tho police sre making inquiries. SUDDEN DEATH.' Dunodin, September 22. Thos. Omand died suddenly this mornIng at Port Chalmers. Ho had driven in his trnp from his dairy farm at the Lower Harbour to do some shoppins, and was standing in front of Mr. A. Fullnrton's store, when Jlr. J. Robertson, the butcher,.came along, from whom he ordered, some meat. Tho butcher's' shopwas a few doors away, and ns the horro which ho h:id rocontly acquired was restless, causing trouble, he led it down to the butcher's shop. Arrived there, he got into, the trap, nnd drove a. little way farther down the 5-trcet. On -returning, Hie butcher enme out with the meat. 'Tho meat was deposited in th? trap, which ■then drove on. Tho trap liad only prono a few yards when Mr. Kfll:ort-on noticed that the driver hud fallen forward, nnd was lying motionless in the bottom of the vehicle. In response to a whistle by Mr. K-nbert«oD two men farther up tho strpet stopped the horse. Its driver was lifted . out o-f the trap -and taken into Fullarton's shop, but he seemed dead, nmd this was confirmed by Dr. Hodges, who quickly arrived on the fcene. Death is attributed to liopa-t disease. Deceased, who was about 63 years ai ngo, was a gold digger ere he took up his present farm in the Lower Harbour, nbout 40 years ago.
DIED IN MAIL TRAIN , . A Maori named ICateno died in the mail train on Friday. lie was proceeding from Greatford to Normanby.
