THE REFORM CANDIDATE OPENS (By TclCßranh.-rress Association.) Waitara, September 23. Mr. W. Forbes, who has announced himself as an Opposition candidate for Tuumaruiuu, delivered tlic opening ad-ch-oss of his campaign la.'t evening. Ho practically adopted the Opposition platform. He. mentioned' that, tic was in favour of straightening up the finance, and also in favour of freehold land tenure, and Civil Service reform. On the liquor question ho favoured a Dominion p.ill rather than a local optiowono and a bare majority vote. He is agirinst tlio Defence Act as.it stsnds, contending that th'T-j should bo a conscience clnusp. The candidate received a, vote of thinks.
