TRAMS TO AEAJIOHO? (By Telegraph.-Special Correspondent.*' Wanganui, September 23. A large meeting of ratepayers, presided over by the Mayor of Wanganui, was held at Aramoho last evening to consider the question of tramway extension through that district, thus linking it up with the c.-isliiig borough system. The tramways engineer, in reporting on the. proposal, points out that either the railway lino must be crowed at Aramoho, or a sloping shelf cut out of the river bank to allow tho tramway to run under the. railway, but he states that further information is necessary as to the system to b<? used. The engineer estimates that tlie overhead trolly system would cost about JIVoOO to instal, but rocs on to say: "Owing to improvements in connection with the storage battery system (Edison's) nncl the rapid strides hi tlic development of the trackless trolly system, I consider these two systems havo now reached a stage in their development which warrants the council in making full inquiries into their relative advantages." In view of the engineer's report: it was decided to get further information on the last-named two systems, and a further meeting is to bo hold.At the annual meeting of the Union Boating Club Mr. V. Jf. Spnrdle was elected president. Mr. W. Shnrpe, captain: Mr. T). Martin, deputy-captain; and Mr. C. A. Wadman, secretary. At the mutual meeting of the Aramoho Boating Club, Major J/imnx was re-elected p.-.tron, llr. W. M. Lnsfovd, president; Mr. J. Hogan, captain; and Mr. J. M'Tavisli. secretary. Work on the Gonville-Castlocliff tramway line is proceedivg in a very satisfactory manner, nearly all the formation being now finished, and the vails are laid for more than half Hie distance between til.; Ileads and the town.
