Mr?. Kayo, of Christchurch, gave an address in the Presbyterian Church hero on Sunday, her subject being the. great missionary conference, which was held in Edinburgh last year, and nt which Mrs. Kn.ve was a New Zealand delogate. Mr. D. H. Gntlirw, M.P., met Ms committeo and friends hero on Saturday evening, and made preliminary arrangements for (ho coiniii? political campaign. Tho banks and legal oliicos are closed fov Dominion Day. but not tlie shops. Tho monthly meeting of tho Kiwilea County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Kimbolton, on Saturday. Present: Councillors P. F. Ilockly (chairman), M'liv'.yvt?, Morton, Bruce, Fowler, Sluiv:, M'Xeil, and Gricc. The county treasurer reported as follows:— Receipts during the month: Rate, ,£7SS; Government grants, .CI26G; subsidy, .£313; ordinary thirds, .£i)9: hypothecated thirds, £Is. Payments: County fund account, .£■l3s. The. county fund account has an overdraft of «£"272 D i).=. Id. It. was decided that the clerk should take the necessary steps to obtain a written statement from candidates for Parliament at the forthcoming election that they will, if elected, do their best to press upon whatever Government is in power, the necessity for a local Gowiiment Rill. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chairman for the able manner in which he had represented the county at tho Counties Conference. The special order defining the new boundaries of ridiugs was confirmed.
Mr. David Jones, organiser for the Farmers' Union Political Protection Party, spoko at Feilding on Friday. Mr. A. E. Mayo (chairman of tho local branch of the Farmers' Union) presiding. There were few farmers present, and only a tew townsfolk. Afr. Jones (rave an interesting address, l>y no means nprressivc in tone, excepting towards the Focialists. He received a hearty vote of thanks.
