There is a-sale of purebred Ayrshire cnttlo on Hip afternoon of the first day of the Wairarapa Society's show at Cartertcn, a lid entries have been promised from the. South Island as well as the Xorth. This should bo a good opportunity for visitors interested in procuring new blood. - The Xew Zealand Government, according to Messrs. Weddell a.nd Co.'s annual review, gO:S to a great expense, and takes great pains to prepare the Dominion's produce for the market, but doe? little or nothing (in the way of advertising) io prepare the London market ■ for the produc?. The 'Wairarapa P. and A. Society are still paying attention to the district's requirements, , as a dairying centre, and give good prizes in the sections of dairy cattle, more particularly in the Ayrshire classes, which will be expected to pravido a show in themselves, as the North Island champion bull and cow will be on exhibition. The Himtly correspondent of the Auckland "Herald" states that the creamery at Kimihin will bo closed down for good and all at the end of the month. Homo separation has become so popular in the neighbourhood thnt the supply to the creamery is not sufficient to mako it a paying concern. The attractive schedule of the "Wairarapa. P. and A. Society has just been issued from Carterton, and contains generous inducements to exhibitors in all classes. Unt'l yeshrday, says the Svilm-v "Telegraph," of Sept-ember 13, a consignment of New Zealand potatoss had not been seen in Sydney for quite a considerable tiiiie. And now they aro not intended for the local market, having -merely been imported for transhipment to the Islands. Potatoes pay a tariff duty of .£1 per ton, and the sliipment in question is therefore, in bond. Importations are prohibited unless accompanied by an official certificate identifying the potatoes, and certifying that they, when exported, were free from disease, had been grown on uninfected ground, and jrere packed in the country of origin in clean now packages. The proclamation, which was issued on July 20 ' last; also adds that "the Minister may permit potatoes-which, are certified by a quarantine officer to be free from disease to ba imported under and subject to such conditions ns the Minister may think fit (o impose." It is understood that the. thipracnt in question, although apparently sound, does not consist of tubers that could rival the best Australian on any market.
