BANK RATES OF DISCOUNT. The Bank of England rato was, on December 1, 1910, lowered from 5 to 4i per cent.; on January 27 it was lowered to 4 per cent., on February 16 to 3J per cent., and on ilarch 9 to 3 per cent. On September 21 it was advanced to 4 per ccnt . The Bank of France rate was reduced from 35 to 3 per ccnt. on January 23. 19D8. and continued at tho latter figure until September 21, 1911 when it was raised to 3J per ccnt. The Imperial Bank of Germany reduced its rato from 5 to <5 per cent., on February 6, anjl on February 19 the rate was farther reduced to 4 per cent. On September 19 the rate was raised tp 5 per ccnt.

Cd., holders are ashing 365. 9d. for South Australian, per steamer, September shipment, 3Ss. 9d. per sailer Hay shipment; 375. for New South Wales, per sailer shipment, during llrst half of October; 345. 9d. for South Australian and' Victorian parcels aP.oat; and 3os. for New Zealand afloat. There is a poor- demand for Australian, on spot, at 365. to. 375., New Zealand 345. 6d. to 365. Flour, on spot, is scarce; natents. 2£s. 6d. Oats are firm owing to light European crops; New Zealand unchanged; La Plata, December-January shipment-, 16s. 6d. Beans.—New Zealand, firm, at 345. to 345. 6d. Butter is vory firm. Danish, 1355.; Australian is realisinc full late rates; the new season's is being rapidly cleared; the qual ity is excellent. There is a hardeuing tendency all round. Cheese is strong. SUGAR PRODUCTION. Dy Telegraph—l'rcss Association- Copyright London, September 21. Herr F. O. Licht, of Jlagdcnburg, in hia' monthly circular, states that tho production of beet sugar in Europe during the 1910-1911 campaign, which began on September 1, shows an increase of 809,C00 tons, as compared with the previous campaign, lie estimates that tho total amount produced during the current campaign will be about 8.119,000 tons, or an increaso of 1,960,000 tons.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Chrlstcliurch, September 22. The grain and produce market is in a very quiet state. There is nothing doing in wheat, and in sympathy with tho Australian market there is an easier tone. Prices havo been a shade abovo recent quotations, but arc now back to a level of about 3s. 6d. for Hunters and Tuscan, and 3s. 7d. for pearl, at country stations. Oats are firm, but unobtainable, and the North Island is not receiving seed requirements from Australia. Chaff is somewhat firmer, and is now quoted at 80s. to 855., at country stations. The potato market has practically collapsed. buyers now offering only 30s. to 355., the latter being the outside nricc at country stations. Supplies for the North Island are going forward from tho south. Stocks, when taken from the pit and nlaced ill store, have not kept well during the hot weather preceding the late storm, and there is, therefore, no disposition to purchase forward.
