This week's Gazette contains the following notices to mariners.— Hokianga Bar.—Tho harbourmaster at Hokianga roports that the .shallow pit to tho eouth of main channel is working to tho northward. Soundings taken by local steamers at tho latter end of August and carl> li. Septombnl show that. the south channel has commenced to close up again, and tho north channel is deepening and opening out as the main channel similar to last yoar. The latest soundings show 17ft. L.W.S. with flagstaff bearing E. by N. to E. 3 N„ and only 13ft. L.W.S. along the line of bearing ot flagstaff E. by V. 1 N. whero in July this lino showed 17ft. Charts, etc., aflected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 2525 1091 a; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 19C8, Chapter Vllf, nago 201. Hokitikn Training-wall Lights—The Hokitika Harbour Board have notified that during the extension of the training-walls seaward a white anchor light will bo shown from extrcrao end of the works in progress on each of the north and south walls. These lights will bo in addition to the usual harbour lights. Charts, etc., affected: Admiralty Chart No. 2591; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1908, Chapter X, page 321. KIA ORA AT AUCKLAND. An arriva lat Auckland yesterday afternoon was tho Shaw-SaviU steamer Kia. Ora, from London. Sho is due at Wellington about September 29. TYSER LINE MOVEMENTS. Tho Indralema left yesterday afternoon for London, via the Bluff. On account of having a large cargo to discharge at Auckland, the Indrabarah will not reach Wellington until Sunday, October 1. Sho is expected to clear from J Auckland on Wednesday, September 27.
AORANGI FOR SAN FRANCISCO, Aorangi, R.M.S.. left tho Queen's Wharf at 11.20 a.m. yesterday and anchored iu the stream prior to leaving . finally for Karotonga, Papeete, and San Francisco at 6 p.m. Sho is duo at her destination on October 12.
MAITAI LEAVES 'FRISCO. Cable advice received by tho local ofilco of tho Union Company states that R.M.S Maitai left San Francisco for Wellington, via way ports, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday— lier duo date. She is expected to axrivo here on October 12.
WASRIMOO'S RUNAING ALTERED. Owing to having to undergo survey at Molbourno this trip, the Union Company's Warrimoo did not leavo the Victorian port until yesterday. In consequence, she cuts out Hobart and the Bluff, and comes dircct to Dunedin. Sho is duo at Wellington on September 29—her original date—and leaves tlio same day for Sydney direct.
RTJAPEnU SAILS FOR HOME. Shortly after noon yesterday the New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. liuapeliu left her berth at tho Glasgow Wharf, Wellington, and commenced her long journey to London. She is duo at the Home port about November' 1. Dunedin. for 3fontc Video: 948 sacks potatoes, and 1 package sundries. I GENERAL HARBOUR REGULATIONS. AN ALTERATION. This week's Gazette contains a notice in which it states that paragraph 1 of Clause (1) of General Harbour Regulations has been revoked, and the following substitute ed for it:— (1.) There shall bo a fore an daft space of at least fleven feet between tho fore or after end of hatch-combings and the nearest cross-beam, or between crossbeams, and, whoTc neccsf-ary, sufficient hatch-beams shall be unshipped and moved clear of the hatchways to give such space; provided that in vessels whose hatches are less than eleven foet fore and afto measurement all cross-beaniß and fore and afters in the hatches shall be unshipped and moved clear of the hatchways. All hatch-beams which are not unshipped must be properly secured to prevent their becomi-ng unshipped should a sling of cargo catch underneath them; provided further that hatch-boams need not he unshipped when coal is being shipped into tho hatches iu bulk. Whanga>rei: Lights for lifting-spnn on bridge at Kioreroa.-rThe Whangarei Harbour Board have notified that the following mentioned signals w>ll be exhibited on each side of the opening span of the Kioreroa Railway Bridgo from tho second of nest month:— At night-time: A green light will be shown on each side of the opening span wheu waterway is clear. No lights when navigation i<s closed. At daytime: A green disc when waterway is clear. No disc when waterway is closed. Works affected: "New Zealand Pilot, eighth edition, 1908,-Chapter iii, page 77. New South Wales: Shell, etc., Practice near Sydney Heads.—Tho Navigation De* partment at Sydney notifies that tho military authorities have requested that tention be drawn to tho fact that when a red flag is flying from any. of tho forts or rifle ranges visible at sea on the coastline between North Head and Botany Bay it is an indication that shot-and-shell practice or rifle-flrins seawards is taking place, blasters of all steamers and persons in charge of sailing-boats and craft of every description are warned that their vessels must be navigated at least three miles from tho coast when a red flag is flying, and they should not remain anywhere in tho vicinity of tho targets.
Mapourika, e.b. left Westnort for Wellington, via Nelson, at' 9 a.m. yesterday. Sho is scheduled to leave Nelson at 7 a.m. to-day, ar.d should arrive in port about 4 o'clock this afternoon. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer lUmutaka is expected to leave Wellington for the BluiF on Monday. Captain Crawford, recently apnointed to the pilot staff at Lyttelton, took up duty on Wednesday last. Oaptain Stringer will accompany Captain Aldwell on tho Maori for a trin or two before relieving the latter master, who is going on holiday leave. Yesterday tho Union Company's big steamer Aparima came out of dock at Port Chalmers, and leaves to-day for Newcastle. At 5.50 a.m. yesterday, the Scales chartered rt-eamer Clan Boss left Auckland for Port lvembla. Having completed loading operations at the Bluff, the F.-11.-S. steamer Surrey left for Avonmouth, via Sydney, at 7 a.m. yesterday. . Mr. T. Walker, lato purser of tho Tarawera, joined the Arahura in a similar aosition ycstcrdav, thus relieving Mr. J. i'Laren.
