NEW ZEALAND PRODUCERS' ASSOCIATION.
THE' LONDON BOCK SCHEME. Tho Now Zealand Producers' Association held a meeting at the rooms of tlio New Zealand Farmers' Union on Thursday, Mr. J. G. Wilson occupying the chair. _ The chairman reported that he had interviewed the heads of several firms interested in the trade, and had found that the recommendations of the association in regard to tho improvements to the Southwest India Dock had been generaUy approved, and that several companies had communicatcd with their representatives in London instructing them to support the movement. . A letter was. read from 31r. E. Davidson, managing director of the firm of Messrs. It. and W. Davidson, Glasgow, which read 3: "I am of the opinion that the New Zealand Producers' Association is working ou right lines, and I think Mr. Sholton is carrying out their ideas in a_ very judicious and energetic manner." Mr. Davidson further stated that he had written very fully to his people with a strong request that Major Norton (late Trade Commissioner for one of the Australian Ntatcs) tjhould get into touch with Mr. Shclton and join with him. if that is considered desirable, and in any case to assist thc objects of the association by all means in his power. It was resolved Thill, a* thc Session is so far advanced, there will be no opportunity of legislation this year, in connection with tlie Producers' Association. It was decided that as eoon as Jin Sholton reports that tho l'ort of London Authority has agreed to start on the Southwest India Dock to provide accommodation for New Zealand produce, lie should return to the Dominion, and place before the producers in thc various centres the advantage to be gained by combination. Correspondence from the freezing companies was read in regard to a suggestion of Mr. Shelton's to add an extra covering on frozen mutton and lamb. _Most of tho companies expressed their willingness to adopt this suggestion, provided that producers bear the ccet. It was decided that this should be brought under tho notice of the producers, through the local committees. It was thought that the cover should, be charged to the buyers at Koine in thc EEimc way as sach-3. FurthM' Tcports from Mr. Shelton wero considered, and approval was expressed of the st.reuuou? ell'orta he was making to have the South-West India Dock made snitnblo for New Zealand trade at an early date. Attached to tlie report was voluminous correspondcuco which had passed between Lord Devouport. chairman of the Port of London Authority, tho chief engineer of the PoTt, and others, also an extract from tho statement of the Port of London Authority in regard to tho oxtcnt of the proposed improvements at thc Southwest India Dock. In his report, Mr. Shelton stated that ho had met and cunsulted witli several representatives of the produce trade, and was desirous of gaining their united support. Mr. Shelton also advised that the l'ort of Loudon Authority had raised its chargcs to compensate ■ theiu for higher wages being paid to their employees as the result of the strike. Mr. Shelton considers that possibly thc higher wages may result in an increased consumption of meat, which will raise .(lie price of meats of all description. Mr. Shelton visited' Salisbury and Warminster, and was surprised to Ilnd that in such small towns thc market for frozen meat was thoroughly developed.
