NOT AESTHETIC.
RECENT TRAJICAR ADVERTISEMENTS. From an attitude of solid opposition to anything of the kind, the City Council, it will he remembered, veered round to an indulgent acceptance of tho preposition that tramcar advertisements of aesthetic design might, after all, give no great offence to tho public eye, and would bring a little fresh "grist to the mill."
The fiat went forth, and designs were prepared for the guidance of business people who might desire to take advantage of this new field. The advertisements duly began to appear in the interior of tho cars—chaste designs in coloured glass. Nobody complained, and tho fresh "grist to tho mill" clinked into Hie corporation coffers, to be credited to the tramways account.
Recently, however, there have appeared on the exterior of some of the cars certain less ornate placards. These, it is stated, are not in conformity with the policy laid down by the council when it decided to decorate tho interiors of the cars with commercial 'nhiKntncpments of chaste design, and several people have licen heard to ask: "Why is this thus?"
It is understood that the new advertisements will be subjected to some adverse comment at the next meeting of tho City Council.
