ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SHIP'S SURGEON INJURED. Dr. C. Edsall, surgeon on board the Rotorua, which arrived at Wellington from London on Tuesday, mot with an accident on September 5, when the vessel was between Cape Town and Hobart. A very heavy sea was running at. the time and Dr. Edsall was in the act of descending a ladder from the top to the main deck when the vessel gave a lurch, lie missed his footing and was thrown to the deck below and received several bruises and a. scalp wound. Dr. Edsdall had recovered on arrival. FOUND IN A DITCH. (By TelcEranh.—Press Association.) Christchurch, September 20. Edmund Spence, aged 83, a farmer, was found lying in a ditch at Papanui this morning, with wounds in his throat and arms. He died a littlo lafer. Mrs- Sarah Quinn', of 35 Cambridge Terrace, was admitted to the hospital yesterday suffering from a broken leg, caused through a slip. Mrs. Quipft is 72 years of age.
