HAS THE LAW BEEN BROKEN?
» HARBOUR BOAED INDICTED. A breach by tho Auckland Harbour Board of the provisions, of tho Harbours Act is alleged bv Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P. for Wellington East. Yesterday afternoon he gave notice of his intention to ask tho Minister of Marine whether his attention has been called to the action of the board in.'paying during the last four years large stuns amounting to thousands of pounds to a firm of Auckland contractors for blasting and rock excavation in Auckland Harbour, without first- giving public notice or calling for public tenders, as required by Section,"> 7of tho Act. . Mr. M'Laren suggested that the Minister should make inquiries regarding the amounts paid and the rca.san for paying such largo sums to the firm, and why the board did not comply with the Act. Ho proposes that, if the law has been violated, the Minister should take steps to have it vindicated and properly enforced in future.
