THE COMING ELECTIONS.
PATEA SEAT. (By Tcleßraph.—Press Association.) Hawera, September 20. Mr. P. O'Dea, a candidate for the Patea seat, addressed tho electors last night. He declared himself a Government supporter, upheld the present education system, favoured the bare majority on the NoLicense question, opposed the granting of freehold to Crown .tenants, and would stop the further sale of Crown land. He would abolish the Upper House, or make it elective, and he preferred the proportional representation system to the second ballot. Mr. O'Dea received a vote of confidence. Replying to a statement that a Minister would run for the Patea seat lie said that would not affect him—he would go to the poll. THE HAWKE'S BAY SEAT. (By Telegraph— Snecial Oorresnondnnt.) Hastings, September 20. Reports have been received locally to the effect that Mr. H. M. Campbell, Reform candidate for the Ilawkc's Bay seat, is having a very successful campaign in the Wairoa division of the electorate. Though the fact lias not been announced, it is not improbable it will bo found when Mr. Spencer Clapham's manifesto is issued that ho is standing in the special interests of Labour and No-Li-cense. He will be a Government supporter, but with strong leanings towards independence. Thus wo shall have Messrs. A. L. D. Fraser, H. Lan Simson, and G. S. Clapham all desirous of acquiring tho Government vote. Mr. Eustace La.no is asking for support almost solely on his land policy, whilst Mr. Campbell gives general support to the programme of the Reform Party, and unhesitatingly declares for a ' change of Government. THE WANGANUI SEAT. (By TelCEranh.—Press Association.) Wanganui, September 20. Mr. W. A. Veitch, president of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants of New Zealand, was to-night selected as tho Labour candidate for the Wanganui seat at the general election. There aro now four candidates in the field, the other three being: Mr. Hogau (Government), Mr. Hutchison (Opposition), and Mr. Mackay (Independent).
